Hillside Stable - Board FAQ
Ardrossan, Alberta
  • I am interested in board at your facility, but not in lessons. What do you charge for outside
    board without lessons?
  • Outside board includes lesson in the rate. The only exception is for boarders that have a
second horse. In this event we will offer a special rate not including lessons or a tack
    locker for the second horse.
  • How many horses do you board at Hillside?
  • Hillside Stable has limited board, with a maximum of 12 boarders (not including training
    horses).
  • Do you have any vacancies?
  • Vacancies for board are rare and fill fast, with priority given to riders who best fit into our
programs. Please call for an appointment if you would like to view our property and be
    considered for board.
  • Can I bring in my own trainer?
  • We are open to bringing in trainers for clinics that we feel will benefit other riders, but we
do not allow boarders to bring in their own regular trainer.
  • Can I use my own vet and/or farrier?
  • Hillside uses Ken Atkinson for farrier work, and Delaney Vet services for vet work. We
include booking regular appointments, and holding for these vets and farrier in your
board rate. We have other vets and farriers that we use on occasion, and these vets and
farriers are welcome to be used, however there will be a charge for holding in these
cases, if needed. Other vets and farriers must be approved before being used. It is
important to us to only employ professionals who we feel behave and operate in a
    professional and humane way.
  • What vaccinations do you require?
  • We require all boarded horses to have their 3 way vaccinations. We also recommend
flu/rhino and strangles vaccines. Boarders may deworm their own horses or take part in
our deworming program. Horses must be kept up to date with dental and health check
    ups.
  • Are western riders welcome at your facility?
  • We do have some riders who ride western on occasion, however our focus is with
    english riders.
  • What restrictions are there on arena time available to boarders?
  • Our arena is open from 8:30 am - 9:00 pm. Boarders are allowed to ride during lessons,
however we ask that there not be more than 6 riders in the arena during lessons.
Please ask before lunging or jumping while lessons are under way.
  • What type of turn out do you offer?
  • We have various turn out pens available, with mares and geldings kept separate.
Horses are turned out according to personality and feeding requirements. Paddocks
have automatic waterers and shelters. We have grass pastures available for day time
    turn out in the summer.
  • Do you offer private pens?
  • We have private pens, but we do not offer private pen board. We prefer that horses be
allowed to socialize. Private pens are available for training horses, and in the event a
horse is injured and needs to be less mobile.
  • Do you board stallions or mares in foal?
  • We do not offer regular board for stallions, pregnant mares or mares with foals at side.
  • Is there room to park my trailer?
  • We have limited room to park horse trailers.
